Presentation

The Cinematographic Territories are the place for the dialogue between the theatre and cinema, between the programmed shows and films or documentaries that enrich the spectators' experience in their journey through the Festival.

This strong link between these two arts is taking concrete form, this year, with the film The Wind Blows in the Cour d'honneur by Nicolas Klotz and Élisabeth Perceval, who have captured, from their film-maker's viewpoint, the spirit of the Festival d'Avignon today.

The artistic personality of the two associate artists of this year's Festival, Dieudonné Niangouna and Stanislas Nordey, who are also film buffs, has inspired new territories.

Through the cinema, in the same way as through the Festival's shows, a contemporary Africa in motion will be outlined, notably with films by Abderrahmane Sissako, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Alain Gomis... Pasolini's cinema will create the link between Africa and Europe, in particular with his Notebook for an African Orestes.

Reflecting the important place given this year to words and writing, the cinema of Vincent Dieutre will notably be presented with Jaurès and Déchirés/Graves, a film produced last year with the students of the school of the Théâtre National de Bretagne. Two films by Jean-Pierre Mocky, A Couple and The City of Inexpressible Fear, will illustrate his artistic collaboration with the actress Véronique Nordey.

Two major artists that have marked the Festival these last few years will be present through the cinema: Claude Régy with the film Mist of the God by Alexandre Barry, and Peter Brook, with Peter Brook - On a Wire..., a lesson filmed by his son Simon Brook. Lastly, several documentaries will be projected connected to the Festival's guest artists: Jérôme Bel, Sophie Calle, Jan Lauwers, Qudus Onikeku, Krzysztof Warlikowski...
