“I'm a serious actor in French. I'm only a stand-up comedian in English. I mean, I'm not funny in French”. In the late 1990s Bertrand Bossard, a serious actor as far as Stanislas Nordey and Frédéric Fisbach (as well as others) are concerned, went off to Edinburgh in Scotland. He came back with Incredibly Incroyable, his first stand-up routine for French people in English. So what's it all about? Like what most pub-talk is about – God, politics, the Queen of England, the October Revolution, Anastasia, Dallas and Marcel Marceau's mimes. It's also about goldfish. Bertrand Bossard brings on stage more than thirty people and twenty animals who express his thoughts about theatre, the work of an actor, being French, the world and everything else. It's not about commitment or identity. It's an excuse for ideas which are entertaining, liberated by the discovery of another language, unlike the one we know so well that we fall into its traps.
