Le Sujet à Vif, following on from Le Vif du Sujet, is a new space for creation and experiments at the Avignon Festival. In this programme, I am no longer asking a dancer to choose their choreographer. Instead, the aim is to bring about a real cross-over of repertoires and particularities in a more free way. To bring about encounters between choreographers, dancers and all those who create for live performance - circus artists, composers, musicians, mime-artists, plastic artists, all sorts of performers... It is an idea jointly developed with the Festival team, to marry the most unexpected and audacious artistic associations, and I hope that Le Sujet à Vif will show the point where dance is most specific; where the dance script, in a double movement, breaks away and blends with the other forms, in the grand galaxy of the art of representation. The pureness of dance is to be impure. It is at the point of cross-over that the skin of the subject opens slightly so that what is raw underneath, the entrails, can be seen... Le Sujet à Vif, is like an epiderm turned inside out in a strip-tease which has crossed the limit of bare skin.
