Presentation

No man's gone now
"For a number years now, all the solos I have created for my-self (about 175 since 1995) have come out of an immediate composition process.
The choreography itself is created during the performance, in front of the public, never repeated, never reproduced. I use the same concept in the piece for Opiyo. During the rehearsals, obviously I am detached from the action, I am an observer on the outside. This position allows me to contribute to the emotion of the piece as it is taking shape. Without this external viewpoint, the creative process has to rely more heavily on self-confidence and on the rigour one imposes on oneself within the framework of objectivity which is inevitably relative. In this work we try to enhance the choreographic and human substance of the piece whose composition will emerge at the same moment as the performance." Extract from an interview with Julyen Hamilton (see « Autour du spectacle »).
Solo
”I wanted this meeting with François Verret, because I wanted to share his questioning about necessary and inevitable gestures and words which transpire from reflection on, and absorption of, a text. It is very close to my vision of danced movement which can only be a consequence of an interior movement of thought. It's a matter of focussing on the figure of a woman who allows herself to be affected by the élans and contradictions in response only to her own survival logic. Each spectator should be offered an different illusion of intimacy, in a moment which resembles a dissection of the self, laying bare the private ground of the “self-being”.
