Presentation

In a small place in the countryside, a farm is burning down. A man, Clermont, goes mad, weeps. His daughter Pascale will say of him, “My father was a broken bottle.” Oratorio for four voices, Cendres de Cailloux makes the ghosts a drama which has already taken place, sing. In 1992, Daniel Danis composed about forty short paragraphs with alternating monologues. The recitative unfolds in aleatoric verses, cut up according to the rhythms and the breathing of the characters in their particular languages. Clermont, a taciturn widower, his daughter Pascale, Coco the bruised thug and the provocative Shirley known as “The Amazone”, watching the event after it has occurred, see the extent of the disaster of their lies, of the fake heros who they played. Suspended in an improbable time and space, stuck in soot or dancing on ashes, four actors give substance to the special verve of this author from Quebec. After having directed plays by Wajdi Mouawad, Carole Fréchette and Koffi Kwahule, this director from the north of France continues his exploration of today's works written in French. Founder of the Théâtre en Scène company, Vincent Goethals has opted for art that is resolutely generous and open. With Cendres de Cailloux he has found a poetic yet substantial partition and a magnificent story to tell. He says, “I like authors who speak about our lives, about our most obvious, most personal feelings, with extreme modesty.”
