The company called Phun (Pour un humour universellement nécessaire, or For Humour Universally Necessary) invites visitors to enter the gates of a parallel world, people with mutant characters who are half-vegetable, half-human. They are called “les gûmes” (legumes meaning vegetables, in French) and are voluntary deserters from the stressful daily grind amid concrete surroundings. For some fifteen years, they have been living away from it all, in a friendly and united band, in parks and bushes. Where they live, existence becomes idyllic, peaceful and life is a source of fulfilment. A few problems less, a little more joy, that is possibly the motto of the les gûmes, wise philosophers of modern times. A stroll in their company is a series of poetic moments and amusing instants during which tubby, hairy little men let slip, in unusual word play, some of the rules of their community's mode of functioning. We get to meet this endearing population whose characters have vegetable names like TourneFlûr (Sunflur), Barnavet (Barturnip), Artichaude (Artichot) or Petit Sève (Little Sap). They talk about love and sexuality, architecture and education in a bucolic and sensual language. They look at the planet differently and quite casually, transform an innocent walk into an incentive to recapture harmony.
