Presentation

After the success it had last year, France Culture, with support from Sacd and the Association Beaumarchais, presents a new “Journée des écritures contemporaines”. A time for polemics is followed by a time for decisions: a movement is underway,a sign of a return of living authors, and not least of all French, to theatre production. For one entire day, unpublished and unperformed plays are there to be discovered. Their force, their energy and their freshness are carried by the voices and presence of talented actors, and perhaps will stimulate a desire for someone to stage their work in the near future. Already on the programme is a work by Véronique Olmi, la Femme modèle (The Model Woman), an unpublished monologue written for the occasion and which will be performed by Chantal Neuwirth. This is a day which, by way of a variety of texts and themes, rhythms and tonalities, seeks to pay tribute to the richness of contemporary writing, to its capacity to seize the world and sometimes enchant it. Thierry de Peretti, a young director whose talent has not gone unnoticed and who is enthusiastic about the authors of his time, is arranging the stage area. There will be a gust of freshness blowing though the courtyard of the Ecole d'art, where the premières will be exposed in its most lively way, like the start of a work in progress. Each author will be presented when Peretti begins his work. There will be a debate about the secret of the actor, the way in which they chooses their roles, lives with each one, and on their view of today's writing, his expectations and their dreams.
