Presentation

Mihàly Dresch is the most outstanding and original jazz musician in Hungary. His music does not work with ancestral culture, but lives a daily relationship with it. Like Garbarek with east European music, and Coltrane with African musical traditions, Dresch has taken some traditional music elements and put them into jazz, but mixes them with melodies from Transylvania. His style is personal, intimate and enchanting and powerful. His originality and incredible improvisation techniques have earned him recognition since his first forays in the 1970s. The quartet that goes under his name has played with some of the best musicians on the free jazz circuit (Baló, Benkô, Grencsó, Lajkó). Along with his friends, Mihály Dresch unleashes a music that is envelopping, cosy and personal and that on occasion accompanies some literary texts.
