The Cour d'honneur at the Palais des papes in Avignon envelopes the airs of Piazzola, the Argentinian composer who revived the Tango by recognising it as a classical music genre. Choreographer Ana Maria Stekelman does the same when, in the third part, she performs Tango, Vals y Tango, five dancing couples who describe a contemporary form based on the Tango. The first part of the performance is pure, classic Tango. The second gives the audience a taste of the Latin American Waltz of the thirties, be they Argentinian, Brazilian or Peruvian, waltzes in pastel or bright shades mimicking an encounter between two people in dance. The tango tells a story of a confrontation between a man and a woman within a passionate and languorous closeness. There is no ambiguity here: the woman follows swiftly the male partner, all the while at the risk of being turned upside down with dignity, in a swirl of dark and luminous colours.
