In 1993 in Argentina, dancer and choreographer Catherine Berbessou discovered her passion for the Tango. She studies and teaches it with
Federico Rodriguez Moreno, an Argentinian living in Paris since 1992. Their work brings the Tango and contemporary dance together. Each form is enriched by the other's similarities and differences. Both have anti-establishment and hybrid roots. Following the enormous success of their first piece A Fuego Lento (57 performances in two years), Valser (literally: to waltz , but should be understood as: to send flying) lets the contained violence of the Tango burst out. Danced on an earth floor and projected against moveable boarding as if to absorb the shocks, it echoes bull fighting where combat is celebration.
