Ricardo Bartis, great Buenos Aires agit prop artist, based The Sin That Cannot Speak Its Name on two novels by the 20s Argentinian writer Roberto Arlt: Seven Madmen and The Flame Thrower. In 1929, in the basement of a Buenos Aires social club, a group of seven men, united by failure and fear, discuss their utopia: seizing power. To finance their scheme, they plan to start a chain of bordellos, the profits of which will allow them to set up a toxic gas plant to exterminate the capitalist class... Through the zany tribulations of its crew of lost revolutionary conspirators, Bartis and his actors have chosen to favour the atmosphere and the spirit of Roberto Arlt's novels over the intrigues of the plots. The atmosphere is oppressive, the situations surrealistic, the humour, black.
