Working in humanitarian aid. Saying it immediately grabs attention, then leads to questions. Curiosity about these lives of promises, hopes, and commitments is as necessary as it is disturbing. But how can one convey experiences that are both public and intimate? Tiago Rodrigues, before becoming the director of the Festival d’Avignon we know today, gave it a try. Working from interviews with about thirty collaborators of the International Committee of the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders, he presents a series of questions and answers. How to run a refugee camp? How to deal with life and death choices? How to keep going when it seems clear that one will have a hard time trying to change the world alone? In this world where the impossible is an everyday companion, we approach a theatre of words which describes a reality that is nothing but doubt and vulnerability, self-criticism, and time saved.
