Yinka Esi Graves
A British choreographer living in Seville, Yinka Esi Graves explores the connections between flamenco and other forms of bodily expression, particularly from the angle of the modern African diaspora. She was trained in classical and Afrocuban dance, before dedicating herself for the past 15 years to flamenco, which she studied at the Amor de Dios school in Madrid, then in Seville. In 2015, she created “Clay” in collaboration with Asha Thomas, former principal dancer of the “Alvin Ailey” company. The show toured European festivals and was the starting point of a more experimental research, which led to her first solo project, The Disappearing Act.
