Ahmed El Attar

Ahmed El Attar is a performer, director, and playwright who is constantly trying to shift the lines of our understanding, drawing inspiration from reality to change our perception of it. His shows explore contemporary Egyptian society and are often based on everyday situations, in which he highlights systems of domination and oppression— particularly in the family circle. Ahmed El Attar is also active in Cairo’s cultural scene, where he founded and directs both a training and residency structure and the multidisciplinary festival Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival. This is his third visit to the Festival d’Avignon, after The Last Supper in 2015 and Mama in 2018. In 2025, he also took part as a mentor in the Transmission Impossible programme, a project of the Festival d’Avignon headed by Mathilde Monnier.
